Plant Transects

26.04.2021

On this sunny day, we set out to survey the diversity of plants in the meadow. There was more to discover than we anticipated—ranging from dry, partly bare patches to clover, grass, chickweed, thistle, dandelion, speedwell, and vetch.

Colored Bowls

26.04. - 28.04.2021

During this period, we deployed colored bowls for the first time to record the diversity of flying insects.

Pitfall Traps

07.05 - 10.05.2021

During this period, we placed Barber traps (pitfall traps) to capture ground-dwelling animals such as beetles, woodlice, ants, spiders, and more, to further assess the diversity of species in the meadow.

AudioMoths

20.05. - 25.05.2021

We made audio recordings from 6:30 PM to 8:30 PM and from 2:30 AM to 4:30 AM on these days. Our goal was to record the variety of bird species by capturing their calls. At the same time, we aimed to detect whether bats were present in the experimental area. Two of the three devices were placed along the upper edge of the meadow in the hedge, and one was placed at the lower edge near the field.

Colored Bowls

15.06 - 17.06.2021

We repeated the colored bowl method a few weeks later to observe which insects were active at this later time.
